With the upcoming US presidential election and the ongoing debates around many important issues, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. I’ve certainly been feeling the stress myself, and I know I’m not alone. While we can’t control everything happening around us, we can find ways to manage our stress and recharge. For me, one of the best ways to cope is through geocaching.
Geocaching offers a welcome break from the noise and a chance to reconnect with nature, friends, and even ourselves. It’s more than just a hobby; it’s an opportunity to get outside, breathe fresh air, and experience the satisfaction of finding hidden treasures. Whether you’re solving a puzzle cache, trekking to an off-the-beaten-path location, or simply enjoying the fresh air, geocaching can help clear your mind and bring a sense of calm that’s hard to find in our fast-paced, technology-driven world.
Research shows that physical activity and spending time outdoors can significantly reduce stress and improve mental well-being. Geocaching combines these benefits, providing a mix of exploration, exercise, and mindfulness. It helps us refocus, lets our worries fade into the background, and brings moments of joy and accomplishment. These little escapes can leave us feeling more balanced and ready to face whatever life—or the election season—throws our way.
KidVegas19 and I recently spent a wonderful and relaxing afternoon hiking around a lake about an hour north of us. We only had one Earthcache as our target, but ended up making the entire loop and snagging 14 geocaches and a 5 stop Adventure Lab. It was a great getaway and the perfect recharge that I needed.
So, as we navigate this tense time, let’s not forget the power of a good geocaching adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned geocacher or new to the game, taking a break to search for a cache or two could be exactly what you need to recharge. Let’s give ourselves permission to step away from the stress and seek out some joy, one geocache at a time.
Happy caching!

Geocaching is all fun and games... until it's not.
Staying safe should be top of mind when we're out geocaching. However often it's not; we're out there having fun and having a good old time playing the game, but we have to keep in mind some things so we can stay safe so we can keep on caching and having a good time.
